New Syncplicity Beta

Various emails latter of talking about what happens with the Syncplicity client behind a proxy with required authentication, some clues on how to solve the problem the new beta comes with everything to handle the proxy servers.

This new release with version number 2.0.3046.39828 have a new proxy interface located under the “Configure Syncplicity” option.

Portapapeles-1

After you press the “Proxy Settings” button you are presented with a configuration panel for your proxy settings.

By default Syncplicity uses the IE proxy settings, so if you want to change the Server Address or the port you got to do it on the Internet Options Panel.

But not to fear, Syncplicity has an option to open the panel from it’s interface (a pretty neat idea if you ask me)

Portapapeles-3

If you need authentication just put your username and password, Syncplicity will try to authenticate with the credentials of the logged user and if fail will try to use the provided ones by you to connect.

In my case (ISA server, Authentication required, behind firewall) worked like a charm.

Synchronization worked really well with no problems.

If you have problems with a proxy server this is your chance to test Syncplicity with this fix.

Dropbox and Syncplicity

small_logo After signing in dropbox to be a beta tester, today i received my invitation to join the testing of it’s services. I was really excited because of the video presentation they give on their site and how they promise the service will work.

The system is very straight forward and after downloading the dropbox client and installing it I’m presented with the linking process between dropbox and my computer. After doing this I got to the web interface, a very clean and simple interface that allows me to see my files, mi pictures, my shared folders and upload from there too.

Then my explorer got me into my documents directory in which now I have a new folder “My Dropbox” this folder is where I put stuff I want to be synced.

To test it I used my very own iTuny rar files and au3 source code, the source on the private side of my dropbox and the rar files on the public sub-folder of my dropbox.

After watching the uploading process that starts when you drop the files on the folders and a status icon appears on each file, I got my files synced. The rars have a public link:

Download: iTuny 0.4.5
Download: iTuny 0.4
Download: iTuny 0.3
Download: iTuny 0.2
Download: iTuny 0.1

The other files (source code) is on the private side so no public link and possibility for externals to download it.

The service is very simple and just works, and that’s fantastic for me.

I’ve just tested syncplicity and the only drawback i have with them is that the client doesn’t go through my company’s proxy but they are working on it as I speak. This is not a problem with dropbox. (Removed for inaccurate, see down the syncplicity review)

Right now they are working on Shared Folders this allows collaboration with others on a folder that have important files that need to be all the time actual.

A great service worth the try. 🙂 The only thing I miss about syncplicity is that the allow me to sync any folder on my system, but I can live without that.

That means it’s dropbox to me.

syncplicity_logo This is another great service for syncing your files to the web and allows you to keep them safe from computer failures.

Right now they are in beta phase as dropbox but they are not closed to beta testers.

The web interface is really neat and clean, you need flash installed as they use flex to build the file manager.

You can watch the video presentation here: Syncplicity Video

The whole experience is straight forward, you login (after being selected as a beta tester) and download the client. This client has more options and visual aids. It shows you the percentage of synchronization and how much is left with a progress bar, the desktop interface let’s you select which folders you want syncplicity to keep an eye on, this makes the proccess much more simple and pleasant.

After setting the folders I wanted, the sync progress started and depending on the amount of data you have on those directories and your Internet speed the sync finishes in minutes or hours.summary_win_100_percent

You can manage deleted files in the web interface having a “restoring” option that not just returns the file to your web filemanager but to your desktop.

It also offers synchronization on your Google docs (documents and soon spread sheets) and Facebook.

The client has some drawbacks as the dropbox one, right now the client doesn’t support proxies so this means no office use in my case.

After posting the dropbox post I received communication from Ondrej Hrebicek Vice President of Product and Platform of Syncplicity and the pleasant surprise was that they are working on the proxies issue, and hope to have a firm solution to it soon.

Both services are great in it’s way, and by now both are free while in beta. dropbox is offering 2GB of storage and Syncplicity has for the beta unlimited storage.

iTuny 0.5 on the works

Well this time 0.5 will have some bug fixes and some tuning on the already there features. I hope to have a beta some day of the next week if and only if I can get my iTunes installation running again….

By some reason when I tried to Upgrade from 7.6.0.2 to 7.6.2.9 the Apple software Updater screw the install with the whole iTunes COM interface, and now every time I try to run iTuny the system gives me an error.

I hope this can be fixed.

Will keep you informed, and if you have some issues with 0.4 check the 0.4 post on the comments, there are some answers about some common issues with using iTuny.

Have a great week.
God Bless!

Launchy 2.0 Beta 1

launchyIconWell now launchy has reached the beta stage of it’s development, so it’s time to test it and review this early adopters release.

Since version 1.0 this amazing utility has come a long way, with lots of fans and many plugins written for it from gcal to iTuny going through Todoist, Opery, etc… (plugins forum), to a total rewrote from scratch in order to use Qt as it’s UI component and using for background coding C++.

There has been some mayor UI changes, the Alpha rendering it’s much better and doesn’t dissapear after a hibernate on my laptop. Launchy now respects the parameters case so if you send Play it remains as is and doesn’t lowercase it, the options dialog is much more tidy, so is the main interface.

Launchy beta 1 comes with a new skin and a new icon as you can see here:

launchy2The new skin gives launchy an improved look and feel, and the new icon makes it easy to find and relate to the keyboard and the launch action.

if you right-click on the interface it shows you the option and the exit menu entries.

You can access the options clicking on the icon on the top-right corner of launchy.

options

The General Options had a facelift too and had some extras added to it, like the ability to control launchy’s transparency and fade in/out time in that can be set with the sliders.

You can change the shortcut keys to activate and deactivate launchy, as the rest of the previous 1.0 options.

options_skinThe Skins Dialog had a revamp to, now you can have a preview of the skin, the skinner’s info and the selection list of your currently installed skins.

By default Launchy comes with 4 skins, Black Glass, Mercury, Quicksilver2 and the default shown on the screenshot.

The skin format changed too, now instead of an .ini file, the skin is configured with a .qss file.

 options_catalog

The Catalog is now where you define the folders you want launchy to scan for your files, shortcuts, mp3’s, video files, documents, etc…

As you can see in the screenshot, the dialog changed alot from version 1.0 and it’s much more organized, there are two checkboxes there that says Executables (to index exe files) and Directories (to search on the folders subdirectories), the depth in which you want launchy to submerge in your folder tree, a button to rescan the folders, and more.

By default launchy comes with 3 folders to index, your start menu, the shared start menu and the Utilities folder.

If you are thinking in testing this version keep in mind that your old configurations need some backup before installing and running launchy 2 beta 1. I had some trouble with this when I first started launchy 2 beta 1, because it overwrote my config files and all my previous indexed folders where no more on the Catalog tab, so i had to reconfigure launchy to search on my folders, add the filetypes, etc…

options_plugins

The Plugins dialog has a more organized face, the plugin list on the left and the properties (if the plugin has) on the right. In this screenshot is the Weby properties dialog.

The checkbox let’s you activate or deactivate the plugin.

Weby has now included Foxy and the internet explorer indexing plugins.

options_aboutWell this is the description on the new beta of launchy, this new version comes with really great improvements and features.

I just came across with some issues at first start, like iTunes and iLike not playing well when I start them from launchy (for some weird reason that i still don’t actually get), but a restart of my laptop restore everything to normal, and this seems more a problem of the iLike bar and iTunes than Launchy’s fault.

So, if you want to test this beta, keep in mind this… It’s a BETA, so there are still some bugs that need to get fixed, but the overall experience was really great.

My advice, wait for the v2.0 to be released, it’s going to be an amazing release.

iTuny v0.3 Released

ituny

Well here you have the latest version of iTuny, the Launchy companion to control iTunes.

This versions comes with a lot of improvements and some bug fixes, but this release took another approach, it returned to amadawn’s original AutoIt version.

I had to almost rewrite the entire plugin from scratch, add all the vbScript features and some extras to deliver this little monster. 🙂

This version comes with:

Fixed Bugs:

  • Prev Bug fixed

New Features:

  • Installation GUI (Beta)
  • Create Playlists
  • Add current song to a Playlist

Older Features (but new to Amadawn’s version):

  • Search Songs
  • Rate Songs
  • More Info from the current song, including Rate, Play Count, Song Length
  • Toggle MiniPlayer
  • Toggle Visualizations
  • Toggle EQ Window
  • Search a playlist

To install just dobleclick the iTunes Control EXE and the Install GUI will appear, choose your locations and press install.

I’m still having issues on Vista running the exe and installing the links, so if you are using Windows Vista install the controller and links in another location outside “Program Files”.

I’m working in displaying the albumart on a splash screen to make the info more eyecandy.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

iTuny v0.2

Well, i’ve finished the last bug fixes and new features added to iTuny.

What is iTuny?? iTuny is a vbscript that allows you control iTunes from any interface that permits sending parameters to the script. This script is actually thought for launchy, so the main idea is to control iTunes from Launchy.

So what’s new on this release??

  • Added the playlist focus function, this works like this:
iTuny | pl “Name of the playlist” (if the playlist has a name with spaces)
iTuny | pl Nameoftheplaylist (if the name has no spaces)
  • New references in the help function, so it’s easy to get the commands list.

What’s fixed??

  • The Show and Hide function had a bug where if you call the eq window and then hide it and call the show function the eq appear instead of the main iTunes window.

Hope you like iTuny.

Well, long time no see…

I’m bringing you today a script that I wrote to control iTunes from Launchy.
What is Launchy?? Launchy is an App launcher, but not just another app launcher, is a lightweight, fast, multifunctional app launcher, it can launch applications, open files, launch mp3’s, search the web, create gcal entries, create todoist entries, and much more.

With this first release of the script, you can do this:

  • Play, Pause, Stop, Next, Prev a song
  • Rate a song
  • See the Track info without leaving what are you doing
  • Change the Volume level on iTunes
  • Toggle the MiniPlayer
  • Toggle the Visualization window
  • Toggle the EQ Window
  • Quite iTunes
  • Search your Library

These are some usefull things that make my life with iTunes much more easy to handle.
Hope you like it.

WordPress y Zoho Writer

Saludos,
Dios los Bendiga
